Influence of Sociodemographic Factors on Construction Fieldworkers’ Safety Risk Assessments

Construction operations are hazardous, leading to thousands of accidents, injuries, and fatalities annually. Safety risk assessment (SRA) is a key component necessary respond hazards effectively. Individuals have different perceptions the riskiness construction hazards, studies shown that sociodemographic factors among employees can alter their SRA skills. However, role in US industry has been understudied, this analysis investigates topic further. Following detailed systematic review relevant literature, quantitative data were collected from 181 fieldworkers United States using images integrated into an interactive questionnaire survey. Responses on severity frequency seven potential accident causes captured analyzed. Findings literature revealed six factors—age, education, training, gender, ethnicity, work type—that could impact fieldworkers’ SRA. suggests only education significant influence, had statistically less than five percent assessments. Therefore, present study proposes future investigation within domain should complement with critical behavioral rarely discussed, such as cognitive biases, personality traits, safety behavior. As foundational for researchers practitioners, results provide information help enhance workforce sustainability companies diverse workforce.
